October 2023 – Present
Since joining the Link Media team as a Contributor at the Link Magazine and MicroLink I have enjoyed collaborating with other members, developing ideas for coverage, and working with different media. The skills I have used so far in this position are primarily organisation, time management, and written communication. Already, I have furthered my capabilities in local reporting in Vancouver and collaborating with multiple editors.
Feature Writer – Nexus Newspaper
June 2022 – December 2022
As a Feature Writer, I worked closely with the Managing Editor to create a 3000-word feature story for each issue of the Nexus Newspaper. The skills required for the job include concern for impact, creative problem-solving, and cultural agility. This role requires managing deadlines, working flexible hours, and familiarity with student life issues to produce important material that builds student interest in their community. I met these requirements through my journalistic writing ability, Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, excellent interviewing skills, and the skills required for the position. Examples of my work include Reconciliation at Camosun College: The student perspective, Fests go further: How festivals returned to Victoria, and Finding Community the hard way: Camosun alumni tear it up in roller derby.
Hostess Supervisor – Doghouse Family Restaurant
December 2022 – August 2023
As a Supervisor, my duties include ensuring my team works together efficiently and positively to ensure a respectful workplace culture and efficiency in workflow. Some responsibilities required to succeed in this role are being a team player, conflict management, and maintaining other hostess responsibilities of customer service, workplace cleaning and organisation, and assisting other departments when necessary. Skills that I use to manage these duties are detail orientation, organisation, and maintaining composure through pressure.

Secretary – Nexus Publishing Society Board of Directors
April 2022 – January 2023
During my work as Secretary for the Nexus Publishing Society Board of Directors, I track and log minutes for each meeting, keep high levels of organisation of all meeting documents, and ensure all information necessary for meetings is available. Skills related to this role include organisation and listening to take notes of the meeting, time management to attend all meetings, and careful deliberation throughout the decision-making. With this opportunity, I have further developed my understanding of news production, the proceedings of board management and the ability to streamline work to enact action more efficiently.
Treasurer – Nexus Publishing Society Board of Directors
April 2022 – January 2023
As Treasurer for the Nexus Publishing Society Board of Directors, I oversee all financial matters of the board, vote on issues brought to the Board, and weigh budgetary decisions. This role required high levels of organisation and management of the newspaper’s budget and skills involving the calculation and cost-benefit analysis of the fiscal budget, which I accomplished with proficiency. During this position, I expanded my knowledge of news production and developed critical thinking in the industry.
Contributing Writer – Nexus Newspaper
January 2022 – June 2022
As a Contributing Writer for Nexus, I volunteer my time and writing abilities to contribute to Camosun’s student-run paper to gain working experience as a writer. Examples of my work include Shad uses hip-hop to provide hope, inspiration, change, Fortune Gallery exhibit explores nature and living in the moment, and Art Gallery of Greater Victoria connects with Reverberations.
Club Involvement
Project Manager – Enactus BCIT
January 2023 – Present
In partnership with the BCIT chapter of Enactus, I have created my own podcast. I use my knowledge of communications to inspire listeners with the ideals of Enactus. As a club, Enactus aspires to increase sustainability and innovation in entrepreneurs. My podcast allows listeners to learn more about how they can improve their presence in the business world. By interviewing local innovators in sustainability, listeners can learn at their convenience and create connections. I also gain valuable practice producing a podcast. As a whole, it generates a cyclical pattern of sustainable innovation.
