Grace Miller is a journalism student who connects communities by generating local awareness of culture in her city of Vancouver
Born and raised on Vancouver Island, B.C. Grace Miller is an aspiring journalist. Using the art of storytelling to relay interesting reporting is her passion. She hopes to help people become more knowledgeable and have more involvement in their local environments to better support their communities. She has lived in Victoria, Duncan, and now she is based in Burnaby, B.C. The communities she has lived in drive to share culture through media coverage.
She has a Certificate in Digital Communication from Camosun College. A noteworthy aspect of this program was developing skills to adapt the classic practices of larger form journalism to digital media while maintaining quality content. Her specialization in digital communication styles makes her more apt to the changing forms of mass communication in journalism. While attending Camosun, she worked as a contributing writer at Camosun’s student newspaper, Nexus Newspaper.
She has also worked as a Feature Writer and Board Member for Nexus Newspaper. Here, she developed an appreciation for building connections in interviews and gaining personal insight into micro-cultures within a city. Having found this admiration, she now has great skills in researching, interviewing with empathy, and finding a personal perspective within a story. Her work in this role culminated in nominations for multiple JHM awards, including Cover of the Year, Indigenous Reporting in Print, and Feature Writing awards.
She is preparing to be a 2025 graduate from BCIT’s Broadcast and Online Journalism diploma program. In the meantime, she is working on expanding her work with BCIT’s Link magazine to continue her experience as a journalist. After graduation, she hopes to work toward becoming a remote correspondent for a national or international broadcaster.
